Asyl Ospan is a creative writer, dancer/choreographer, singer/songwriter, and actor from Almaty, Kazakhstan. A 2025 graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, her literary work has been recognized with a National Medal and six regional honors from the Scholastic Writing Awards and can be seen in The Etymos Review. Her music received finalist status at the 2021 International Songwriting Competition

Asyl has presented original choreography at various Interlochen Center for the Arts showcases. Her dance experience includes choreographing music videos and presenting work to the legendary Twyla Tharp in a workshop setting.

Through her art, Asyl aims to build bridges across conflict and difference. Her fiction paints complex, truthful portraits of Kazakh women and her invention of the haikuntrapuntal poetic form fosters a practice of understanding and empathetic listening.

When not immersed in creative work, Asyl can be found attempting to master the art of cooking plov, learning phrases in different languages from her friends, and listening to the Hadestown cast album on repeat.
